Torben has started to convert the current version of the Midgard Component Framework (MidCOM) to a filesystem-driven application (which will be called MidCOM 2.0). The current version runs entirely out of the Midgard database, which makes it run quite slow and hard to develop.
The current development release was quite easy to install and in terms of performance it really rocks. This is mainly because filesystem access is much faster than fetching the whole application from the database (we even had to use TCP for some reason) and because now we are able to use PHP optimizers like Turck MMCache. And in addition to that a software update is as easy as dropping some files into a directory now. Nice.
